Elephant Plains photo Safari 10-14 Sep 2014

19th January 2015
Another great 4 days of photography at Elephant plains, we started the first afternoon with a wonderful sighting of Nsele in the most magnificent afternoon light, we spent a great 15 minutes with her as she strolled along marking her territory before she disappeared into a thicket.

Later that evening we caught up with the Majingilane male lions and got some great spotlight images of them, their bellies full after feasting on the Buffalo kill they made earlier, over the next 3 days we would see the Majingilane coalition a few times and on our last afternoon the Tsalala pride of lions came to eat the last remaining bits of the buffalo kill, we got great spotlight images of them as well.

We also saw the Matimba lions with some wonderful backlight as they walked along a small game path at sunset, we again saw Nsele female Leopard as she jumped down a Marula tree and got some pics of a Spotted Hyena at night feeding on a old and rather smelly Kudu carcass.

The following morning we got some in flight images of a pair of Yellowbilled Hornbills as they joined us for morning coffee.

Our trip ended on the last morning drive with a good sighting of the Anderson male Leopard, he was moving through some thick bush marking his territory but persistence paid off and after about 20 minutes of following him we finally managed to get some great images of him.

We also saw the other members of the big 5 as well as a nice variety of general game and also some of the migrating birds that had just started to arrive.

All images photographed using Nikon D4 and D800 cameras with Nikkor 200-400 and 70-200 lenses as well as a SB 910 flash.
